The work 100% Trash by David Leitner addresses the issue of waste material and its multi-layered narratives. In his work garbage appears as an omnipresent part of the public space but also as its antinomy. The archetypical trash bag, besides its ecopolitical and ethical connotations, holds aesthetic, subversive and critical qualities.
Influenced by street art, the painterly as well as graphical works by Leitner, transfer a trivial pictorial object into the borderlands between figuration and abstraction. At the same time, this very transformation of the subject matter maintains accessibility in each of its moments and therefore sustains the legibility of an ecopolitical cause for thought.
