Jee-Ae Lim Performance

Vina Yun Comic Reading

Jee-Ae Lim / Fermented Tales

“‘Migrating dance’ is for some people a way to live through the present; for others, it is a passage into the past, a space where imaginary play and interpretation are allowed, or a fleeting instant when a moment in memory flashes open. Memory relies, in a fragmented and personal way, on body, language, or image, loosely linking scattered subjects. This is to face the multi-faceted aspects of dance in diasporic condition, and at the same time to commemorate what we cannot remember or what exists among what is not remembered.” from Dance is going somewhere by it-self, Jee-Ae Lim

In “Fermented Tales”, Jee-Ae Lim brings personal and collective memories into her dance, traversing different places, times, and generations. The performance takes the form of oral storytelling, contemplating the significance of the persistence of memory that is entrusted in the dancing body. Her exploration uncovers pathways for imagining non-linear and non-simultaneous trajectories of stories in remembering dance.

Vina Yun / HOMESTORIES

comic reading by Vina Yun for the opening on July 27, 2024

Vienna in the 1970s: Long before hi-tech made in Korea, the kimchi hype, and “Gangnam Style”, the first Korean nurses came to Austria as so-called guest workers. Vina Yun’s “Homestories” is a semi-documentary comic about the experience of (post)-migration as well as the relationships be-tween generations and family relations in the diaspora.
